Providing Liquidity

Welcome to the Liquidity Provider (LP) Guide for Butter Swap. As a liquidity provider, you play a crucial role in our ecosystem by enabling efficient token swaps by contributing to liquidity pools. This guide will walk you through the process of becoming an LP, understanding the rewards, and managing your liquidity positions.

Becoming a Liquidity Provider

Providing liquidity on Butter Swap involves depositing a pair of tokens into a pool. Here’s how to get started:

Selecting a Pool

  1. Identify a Pair: Choose a token pair that you want to provide liquidity for. Consider factors like pool size, trading volume, and the stability of the tokens.

  2. Equal Value Contribution: You need to contribute an equal value of each token in the pair. For example, if you wish to provide $100 worth of liquidity, you would supply $50 worth of each token. If you only have one of the two tokens, you can first swap half of it for the other token before you provide liquidity.

Understanding Liquidity Rewards

Swap Fees

  • As an LP, you earn a portion of the swap fees from the trading activity in your pool.

  • Fee Distribution: 100% of swap fees are distributed to liquidity providers.

  • Fee Tiers: Fees vary based on the token pair's volatility and liquidity needs, ranging from 0.01% to 1%.

Tracking Your Earnings

  • You can monitor your earned fees and pool share directly on the Butter Swap interface.

  • Navigate to Pools and select your relevant pool position to display up to date fee earnings.

  • Remember, your earnings accrue in real-time and are proportional to your share of the pool.

Managing Your Liquidity Position

Monitoring Market Conditions

  • Keep an eye on the market conditions as they can affect the value of your deposited tokens.

  • Be aware of “impermanent loss,” which can occur when the price ratio of your deposited tokens changes after you provide liquidity.

Adjusting Your Position

  • You can add more liquidity to the pool or withdraw part of your liquidity at any time.

  • To adjust, simply navigate to your existing position in the ‘Pool’ section and select 'Increase Liquidity' or 'Remove Liquidity.'

Risks and Considerations

  • Liquidity provision involves risks, including impermanent loss.

  • Stay informed about market trends and consider diversifying your liquidity contributions.
